Small Town Roots, Big Automotive Passion

Cory Espino comes from the small farm town of Willows, California. At 38 years old, he manages Wunsch’s Garage, the largest automotive repair shop in town, where he’s worked for more than eleven years. Cars aren’t something Cory just enjoys after hours, they’re part of his daily life, and that shows the moment you see his 2021 Honda Accord Sport Special Edition.

His passion started back in middle school, long before he ever owned a car. Walking or riding his bike to school, he remembers spotting a heavily modified 1990s Honda Civic hatchback that completely caught his attention. From that moment, the dream started. He wanted a car of his own. Something cool. Something modified. Something that felt like his.

Then came The Fast and the Furious, a film that pushed an entire generation deeper into modified car culture. For Cory, that era, the late 90s and early 2000s, still represents one of the best times in the scene. It was a time when people gathered at meets, showed off their builds, raced, talked cars and shared a genuine passion without overthinking it. That feeling never left him.

From a Ford Focus to a Full Show Build

Cory’s first car was a 2000 Ford Focus hatchback. At the time, it felt like the coolest thing on the road: lowered, tinted windows, an intake and a loud exhaust. Looking back, Cory laughs about it now, but that car gave him something important. It gave him entry into the scene.

From there he started attending meets more often, meeting people, learning and modifying nearly every car he owned. Over the years plenty of vehicles came and went, but his 2021 Honda Accord Sport Special Edition became the one he pushed further than any other. This build became different. More serious. More personal. More complete.

Choosing the 10th Gen Accord

Cory didn’t originally set out to buy a 10th generation Accord. At first he was looking at a 9th gen, but the more he searched, the more the 10th gen stood out to him. The aggressive front end, the sharper body lines, the modern styling, it all pulled him in a different direction.

In 2021 the platform still wasn’t as heavily modified as it is today, which made it even more appealing. Cory saw potential in it and decided to make his first ever brand new vehicle purchase. That decision became the starting point for the Honda Accord build you see today.

Passion Over Recognition

Cory’s 2021 Honda Accord Sport Special Edition wasn’t built for clout, and it wasn’t built to chase approval either. It was built because he loves the culture.

“The Accord build is definitely for passion and has nothing to do with recognition,” Cory says. “I do what I do to cars because I like it. I have a love for the culture and just want to keep it alive for the next generation.”

That mindset matters to him. If his car inspires even one younger enthusiast the way he was inspired as a kid, then the build has already done its job.

The Look Back Test

There’s one simple rule a lot of car people understand: if you don’t look back at your car after parking it, it might not be the one. Cory still looks back every time. Whether it’s parked at a show, sitting under lights or just waiting in a lot, the 2021 Honda Accord Sport Special Edition gives him that feeling.

When people stop and check it out, it feels good, but Cory also understands that every build is subjective. What he likes may not be what everyone else likes, and that’s perfectly fine, because the build was never meant to please everyone. It was meant to represent him.

What Makes This Honda Accord Build Stand Out

Cory believes every car is unique to its owner, and even the smallest modification can change the personality of a build. For his Accord, the first thing that separates it from most others is the colour. San Marino Red is an OEM shade, but it’s rarely seen in the modified Accord show scene.

Combined with the black and red interior details, carbon fibre accents, air suspension and a custom management setup, the car has developed a personality all of its own. The air management layout, while clean and simple, is one of the details Cory feels really sets the car apart from others he’s seen. It’s not overdone. It’s intentional.

2021 Honda Accord Sport Special Edition: Built by His Own Hands

One of the strongest parts of Cory’s build is that he’s done nearly all of the work himself. Aside from the ambient lighting and starlight headliner, which were completed by ArcticWorx, Cory handled the rest.

That matters to him, not just because it saves money, but because doing the work yourself creates a different connection to the car. You know where everything is. You know how it was installed. You know what it took to get there. And when something goes wrong, you understand the build well enough to fix it.

What Comes Next

The Accord is far from finished. Future plans for the build include a full carbon fibre trunk with an infused duckbill, a new wheel setup, a possible wrap or paint change, a custom exhaust, a redesigned trunk setup, seat upgrades, additional interior customisation, side splitters, carbon engine bay components, an intake upgrade and possibly some engine bay lighting to finish things off.

For Cory, a car is never truly done. “The car is never done,” he says. “A car that is done is only the person being bored. There is always something to do or change.”

Redemptionz

Cory is co-owner of Redemptionz alongside his cousin Jeff Espino. Jeff originally created the club back in 2009, and Cory joined around 2013. Together with the rest of the crew, they’ve helped build Redemptionz into a quality car club and brand centred around diversity, respect and passion for the culture.

Cory credits past, present and future members for helping make Redemptionz what it is today. Their mission is simple: quality, diversity, family, and keeping the culture alive.

What the Scene Has Given Him

The car scene has given Cory more than just cars. It’s given him friendships, travel, opportunity and a sense of purpose. Without car culture, he’s not sure where he’d be. It’s been part of him for so long that he can’t imagine life without it.

He also credits Stance Auto as one of those opportunities that came through the culture, and being part of the Stance Auto family is an honour he doesn’t take lightly.

Dream Car

Like many enthusiasts, Cory’s dream car is one of the most iconic JDM machines ever built, the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. But he wouldn’t say no to an R35 either. “One day I will own one of them,” he says. “Or who knows, maybe both.”

Final Words

Cory’s message to other builders is simple but powerful: “Be humble with how you carry yourself. The next generation of car culture is watching.”

That line says everything about his approach. Build with passion. Do the work. Stay humble. And remember that someone younger may be looking at your car the same way Cory once looked at that modified Civic hatchback on his way to school. That’s how culture continues, one build at a time.
